Truckers Strike at Port of Oakland

Truckers at the Port of Oakland began striking today at 5 a.m. to protest unsafe working conditions and unfair labor practices, according to the Port of Oakland Truckers Association (POTA)–a group they have organized to represent their interests.

Port of Port Elizabeth

The port oversees almost four million tons of cargo a year and thousands of ships use the port to on and off load cargo, or for refueling and repairs. Over and above the motor vehicle parts that move through the Port Elizabeth port, commodities such as timber, wool, citrus, steel and other perishables can be accommodated as a direct train service is able to transport goods immediately.

Port of Saldanha Bay

Port of Durban

Cargo handled amounted to 42,668,119 tonnes, which included oil and petroleum products. This tonnage however excludes containers, of which 1.956 million TEUs were handled in Durban last year, and may be calculated as the equivalent of 26,406,000 tonnes which, included with the gross figure above, gives the port a total tonnage of 69,074 million tonnes of cargo handled.

Port of Cape Town

South African Truck Drivers Strike (Fall 2012)

A strike by more than 20,000 truck drivers in South Africa is costing the freight industry 1.2 billion rand ($141 million) in lost revenue each week, an industry body said on Friday.

Adelanto Detention Center
