The Adelanto Detention Center opened in August of 2011. The facility is owned and operated by the GEO Group, which operates numerous immigration detention facilities across the United States. The facility was built in 1991 by the City of Adelanto to house adult male convicts. In June of 2010, it was bought by the GEO. In May of 2011, GEO contracted with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house immigration detainees there. Currently, the facility has room for 650 immigration detainees.
